Purpose This paper aims to undertake an ideal-typical analysis of the implications overtourism on employment at level destination. Design/methodology/approach The offers a theoretical that uses as starting point traditional labour market model explore demand shock result destination level. Although exploration, examples are provided offering empirical support for propositions. Findings Overtourism may lower nominal and real wages, further deepen divisions in already divided (particularly between local migrant workers), increase productivity without its benefits accruing worker deterioration working conditions. study also sets tourism within broader politico-economic framework neoliberalism. Research limitations/implications scope testing hypothesized relationships. It provides platform adopt adapt propositions suit different contexts.
